Program Details

Thank you for your interest in Team Golden State!

Our team is a clay shooting sports team registered with the California Youth Shooting Sports Association league (shootcyssa.com), a program for athletes ages 8-23 that awards for team, squad and individual levels.

Clay shooting is both an individual and team sport where athletes rely on each other for success. It is important for squad members to practice together and learn how to support each other.

Practices

Fall Sporting Clays:

August - November

Thursdays, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Saturdays, 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Spring Trap/Skeet:

January - June

Tuesdays & Thursdays

6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. (skeet only)

Tournament locations vary Saturdays and Sundays.

Divisions

Rookie Division (Grades 5 and under)

"Junior" Intermediate Divisions (Grades 6-8)

Entry Level (IE) - 1st year of participation in Jr. Division

Advanced (IA) - 2nd or 3rd year in Jr. Division

Senior Divisions (Grades 9-12)

Junior Varsity - 1st year of participation in Sr. Division

Varsity - 2nd to 4th year of participation in Sr. Division

Young Adults (Ages 18-23)

Participation Requirements

  • Approved eye and ear protection

  • Appropriate Shotgun (Pump, Semi-Auto, Break Action - No External Hammers)

  • Ammunition (7 ½ , 8 or 9 shot)

  • Pouch or Vest for holding ammunition while on the shooting line

  • Closed toe shoes

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to practice for sign in, squadding and prep, or to purchase practice rounds at the clubhouse. Be prepared to be on the line, ready to shoot by practice start time.

  • Arrive 1 hour prior to tournament start times for practice, set up and squadding changes

  • Clean up shells and ammo trash after practice is complete

  • Absences must be communicated to coaching staff prior to practice as attendance does affect team squadding

Annual Fees

$200 non-refundable team registration fee per athlete.

This fee includes:

  • Athlete/team liability insurance

  • Team operating expenses

  • Coaches training

  • Achievement patches, awards, tournament practice and fun shoot rounds.

 

Ammo for practice and competitions.

  • 50-100 rounds per practice

  • 125-150 rounds per competition

 

Practice rounds (clays)

  • $8 per practice round (25 targets)

  • Pre-Purchase cards @ clubhouse

  • Practice rounds at tournaments will be covered by the team association

 

Tournament fees vary by discipline and type of event (Series, States, Nationals). 

Athletes must confirm participation and pay for each tournament one week prior on team app.

  • $85 for Sporting Clays, $58 for Trap, $75 for Skeet

  • $135 for States

  • $100-150 per sport at Nationals

 

Athletes are responsible for their own travel expenses and food.

  • CYSSA schedules 6 regional tournaments per discipline at varying locations

  • Tournament locations are subject to change.

  • Athletes must participate in a minimum of 3 regional tournaments in order to participate in States

  • The US Youth Shooting tournament (Nationals) will be in Las Vegas early July.

 

Payments may be made in cash, or through through Venmo.

 

Fundraising:

Team Golden State has an administrative charitable foundation: Coon Creek Youth Shooting Foundation (CCYSF) 501(c)3, designed to raise funds helping support Team Golden State. CCYSF asks for your help in seeking funds from private companies, individuals, grants, and other organizations willing to help support our athletes. Funds raised support tournament fees, uniforms, equipment, practice targets, practice fees, etc. (subject to the direction of the Foundation Board of Directors). There will be at least one mandatory team fundraiser each season in which all team members are expected to participate.

Code of Conduct

Team Golden State is a CYSSA sanctioned program. Target shooting sports are the same as any other sport. Athletes are expected to behave in a way that reflects positive on themselves, their team, and the sport. As a condition of a team membership, every athlete must agree to and abide by the following Code of Conduct.

  • SAFETY IS THE TOP PRIORITY! Unsafe behavior will result in immediate disciplinary action.

  • Every athlete must wear appropriate ear protection and safety glasses when on the firing line.

  • The CYSSA Handbook applies to all athletes and adults associated with Team Golden State. See shootcyssa.com to obtain a digital copy of the handbook.

  • Safety regulations PROHIBIT any athlete from resting the muzzle of a firearm on his/her shoe.

  • Profanity, foul language and/or derogatory comments will result in athlete discipline.

  • All athletes must dress appropriately during practice and tournaments. There are to be no bare midriffs, saggy pants, short shorts revealing too much skin, open toe shoes or flip-flops during any practice or tournaments. The CYSSA dress code will be followed during practice and tournaments (review the CYSSA handbook for dress code).

  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited.

  • Every athlete must follow all instructions given by coaches and field staff.

  • Every athlete must act in a fair, courteous, respectful, and sportsmanlike manner.  Athletes must never disparage their teammates, coaches, CYSSA officials, or themselves.  Athletes will act in a manner that brings credit to the team at all times.

  • Horseplay and other distracting behavior will not be permitted at any time.

  • Every athlete must show up on time for practice and tournaments unless the athlete has notified a coach that they will be absent or tardy.

  • Poor and unbecoming sportsmanship includes but is not limited to: Stomping of feet; aggressively speaking or arguing with anyone; and rude or unbecoming comments to teammates, coaches, or others at the event on or off the shooting line. It is the policy of Team Golden State that any athlete who exhibits poor or unbecoming sportsmanship behavior will be subject to disciplinary action. Unsportsmanlike conduct up to and including dismissal from the team will be issued at the discretion of the head coach.
